An Exploration of the Potential of Textile Techniques to Create Three-Dimensional Structures.

This is a project originally conceived towards the end of Simon’s time studying Textile Design at the University of Derby. The premise of the project was, and remains, to explore the potential of woven textile techniques to create three-dimensional forms, whilst retaining the qualities of softness and pliability usually associated with a woven fabric.

The project explores the possibility of traditional weave and finishing techniques to allow some of these structures to be self-supporting without recourse to either internal or external armature.
